Celebrating Student Creativity: Art & Music Showcase
The evening began with a vibrant celebration of the arts, featuring a special 3rd Grade Music Performance, and families visited the 3rd–5th Grade Student Art Showcase throughout the event.
Our talented third graders took the stage to perform for families, showcasing their musical growth, confidence, and joy. Their performance highlighted how the arts—both visual and performing—play an essential role in STE(A)M education by fostering creativity, expression, and collaboration.
In addition, the art showcase displayed an array of student work that reflected real-world themes. From imaginative designs to detailed visual storytelling, students demonstrated the power of creativity across disciplines.
Exploring Futures: College & Career Showcase
A cornerstone of the evening was the College & Career Showcase, where students and families engaged directly with professionals and organizations from across our community. Special thanks to our partners:
Jericho Forged LLC
Nissan of Smyrna
Smyrna High School (Criminal Justice, Health Science)
Smyrna Middle School (Title I, Drama, Choir, BETA, Pokemon Club, Journalism)
Smyrna Fire Department@
Smyrna Utilities
Smyrna Parks & Recreation
These partners provided hands-on experiences, shared career pathways, and helped students see how classroom learning connects to real-world opportunities. From engineering and manufacturing to public service and higher education, students were exposed to a wide range of possibilities for their future.
Showcasing Innovation: 3rd–5th Grade STEM Projects
Students proudly presented their 3rd quarter problem-solving skills during the 3rd–5th Grade STEM Showcase, where they applied the Engineering Design Process (EDP) to solve real-world problems. Projects highlighted critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity, reinforcing Smyrna Elementary’s commitment to building problem-solvers.
Families had the opportunity to interact with student-created solutions, ask questions, and see firsthand how students are learning to think like engineers, scientists, and innovators.
Fostering Career Awareness: Career Interest Survey
To further connect learning to student interests, each participating student completed a Career Interest Survey. Based on their responses, students selected a book from the “That’s a Job?” series, allowing them to explore careers aligned with their passions and curiosities.
This initiative empowered students to begin thinking about their future pathways while strengthening literacy through engaging, career-connected texts.
Taking STEM Home: STEM Career Bags
Each student also received a STEM Career Bag, filled with hands-on activities connected to a specific career field. These take-home experiences extended learning beyond the classroom and encouraged families to continue exploring STREAM concepts together.
From building and designing to problem-solving challenges, the STEM bags reinforced that learning can happen anytime, anywhere.
"Building a Bridge Between School and the Real World"
The 2026 Spring STREAM Night embodied Smyrna Elementary’s mission of empowering students for success by creating experiences that spark student interests and bridge the gap between school and the real world.
Through meaningful partnerships, student-centered experiences, and a focus on future readiness, this event not only celebrated student learning, but also inspired the next generation of thinkers, creators, and leaders.
All the books and STEM Bins, along with the take-home bags, were provided by a grant sponsored by Tennessee Valley Authority. Thank you for giving back to our community!
